The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of roughly 321,360 units of the wire-free outdoor security camera after determining that incorrect assembly instructions shipped with the product can lead users to puncture its built-in lithium-ion battery, creating a risk of fire and burn injuries. Another 2,560 units sold in Canada are included, bringing the total past 323,000. The recall took effect June 4, 2026.
The problem is the instructions, not the hardware
The recalled camera is the Wyze Solar Cam Pan in white, model number WYZESCPWH. It pairs a small solar panel with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery so homeowners can mount it outdoors without running wires. The camera was sold through Wyze’s website and other online retailers.
According to the CPSC, the assembly instructions included with the camera contain an error that can direct a user to drive a screw or bracket into the battery compartment during installation. A punctured lithium-ion cell can vent flammable electrolyte, overheat in seconds, and ignite. That makes the setup process itself the hazard, not a flaw in the camera’s electronics or battery.
No injuries or fire incidents have been publicly reported in connection with the defect as of the recall date. The CPSC classified the hazard as a risk of serious injury from fire and burns.
What owners should do right now
The CPSC and Wyze Labs are advising owners to take these steps immediately:
- Stop using the camera. Power it down and disconnect it from any solar panel or other power source.
- Do not attempt to mount, re-mount, or disassemble it. Opening the housing or following the flawed instructions increases the chance of puncturing the battery.
- Contact Wyze Labs for a free remedy. The company is required to provide one at no cost. Have your order confirmation or the serial number from the camera housing ready when you reach out.
